WDYT? Total rebuild?

I'm fairly sure I have a leak in my valve cover, but would that account for the smell mess on my exhaust?
Sorry, ticking. & yes, it sounds more like a tick. I'm unfortunately having to let my husband drive my XJ for the time being so when I heard it for the 1st time yesterday my heart sank. I revved it a few times & added some oil & it stopped.
