Default Water Pump Bolt Size

Replacing the water pump on my 01 XJ yesterday, sure enough snapped one of the bolts holding the waterpump to the block. Fortunately I was able to get the broken bolt out, but now need to get some new ones. Anyone know what size they are, searched around to no avail.

Just take out one of the remaining bolts and match it up. They are SAE,not metric.

3 each, 5/16-18x1-1/8"

1 each. 5/16-18x1-3/4"

You may not find these bolts in these lengths. You'll have to cut them down to size.

I used stainless steel bolts, with SS split washers flattened out in a vice, which gave me about 1/8" spacer under the head of the bolts.

Do not use RTV on the threads. Use a high temp PTFE thread compound.

Do not over torque these bolts.

I had to do this for the power steering pump bracket. Take one of your good bolts to a hardware store and they will have a size guide for you.

Something like this:
