Default Water in Oil

I am looking at buying an inexpensive XJ as a project vehicle. Found a '98 XJ 4.0 with low miles, decent body/interior, but seller says there is water in the oil... Question: Being a competent, but not great shade tree DIY'er, should I grab this vehicle or will it not be worth my time...? Thanks for any and all opinions!

Probably head gasket or cracked head.. Personally I'd steer clear unless it's an unbelievable deal.

X2 or cracked block. Worth your time or not depends on how much of a project you wanted. Also how much $$ you plan to spend, JUST getting it running.

Yeah if its a steal ... few hundred buck....I'd take it, ditch the engine and use all the good parts.

OK - Thanks Y'all. You confirmed what I thought. I'll wait and find another one.

how cheap is cheap??? if the body is great with low miles and the tranny is good then it might be worth the price of admission. 4.0's are easy to find cheap if it is a cracked block...or if its just a head it may be worth replacing. personally i would pay more money for a clean rust free xj than a good motor
