Default Washer reservoir

I decided to buy some washer fluid for my 95 xj after not having some for a while, I filled the reservoir about halfway but then I turned the wipers on and no fluid came out also noticed that my washer fluid started to leak, I know I probably have a bad reservoir but now im just wondering if its fine to just let the rest leak out or remove the fluid to try not to get it on any of the rest of engine components?

Its glorified water. Won't hurt anything but instead of wasting money why not drain it into a bucket?
