Just like the thread says, I got stuck the other day thanks to the open diff's my jeep has. Don't want a locker as it's not needed and my jeep is daily driver/ tow vehicle, want I really want is just a basic ATB differential for the front (D30) and the rear (8 1/4). Any suggestions? Tried a search but everything I found was about lockers, thanks in advance for any help.

Not sure what an ATB is but if you have a problem with lockers then maybe a limited slip is for you or a selectable locker so it will act like an open diff till you push a button or lever.

You complain about open diff and you DONT want a locker? A locker in the rear is definitely beneficial, in the front is a different issue. I would say go with an aussie locker in the rear and an lsd in the front.

I used to run Aussies front and rear and never had any issues. I now have a Detroit front and Hobart rear (cause I don't have a Lincoln) and it chirps a bit but you don't notice it after a while. Wouldn't recommend it for a DD though.

By ATB diff (automatic torque biasing) I was essentially referring to a LSD. does anyone know of a company that makes a decent limited slip for the d30 and 8 1/4, all I could find were lockers. I was going to go with detroit but it looks like all the have for the rear in a 8 /14 jeep is the basic detroit locker which has automatic locking, not familiar with Detroit or if that is a good option for a tow rig, for the front they have detroit locker, detroit truetrac, and detroit e-z locker, which the true-trac seems more like the ATB diff's I like, but it is hardly ever in 4wd so I guess the rear is most important, don't really want to swap out rear-ends, and since I have 27 spline (29 spline has more options) the detroit locker would be only way to go. Would that help me get out of the "one tire fire" situations in snow and also hold up to towing?
(edit) just to give you guys an idea were I am coming from I would rather have lsd available all the time rather than having to flip a switch then worry about inside tire spinning while turning because diff is locked, and I have done to many to count axle and diff changes on drag and road race car's and really don't care to do that kind of stuff anymore, and it is a bit to physically demanding for me. do I just want to go to a shop with some diff's, royal purple, and 4.11's and pay them to handle it.

Yeah. The guy that had my Jeep was going to do a locker in the front also and I think an LSD in the rear. It makes sense for a DD. My girlfriend would NOT be happy if I put a locker in the rear since she daily drives it.

i believe you can find a rear Trac-Lock assembly. these were on the Up Country and towing packages i think for certain years. i can't remember all the specifics of them, but it is a stock part you can find online, or find if you are lucky at a junk yard.
and i know what you mean about those open-diff's. the guys that plow the streets in my neighborhood are terrible, and we literally have a sheet of ice from all the compressed snow that just runs down every street in the neighborhood. last winter i got stuck spinning the tires on a huge ice patch at the entrance of my subdivision, and ended up being 15 minuets late to work! i defiantly want to get alloy axles and a Aussie on the rear: should solve my current problems and make it nice to handle the bigger tires when i finally get a lift.

I wouldn't recommend a full locker in the rear on a rig that tows.
