Default Vibration when taking off

I have a 2001 cherokee sport 4x4 with a 4.0L. I've only had it for a couple of months and it's my first jeep. I love it to say the least but a couple of weeks ago I noticed a vibration, feels like in the drive train, when taking off. It doesn't do it every time when I take off just when I have to really get on the gas. I've taken it to a mechanic and he told me it wasn't bad enough to worry about or diagnose yet and if he had to guess he'd say it's in the transmission or the transfer case. Any help would be appreciated.

Start simple. Are your leafs tight? Are you missing any shims in your leafs?

It only does it on take off and when I'm getting on it pretty good (ie. pulling out into an intersection etc.) and then it goes away. If it was a tire problem I think I'd feel it at higher speeds not just from a stop. I'm not sure about the leaf springs. First, why would this cause the rumble/vibration from take off? Also, how would I check this? It feels like the vibration is coming from the middle to front of the vehicle. Thanks for the suggetions.

dude im experiencing the same thing, the past couple months. its so annoying. so i try to take off like an old man now. like relle easy on the gas. but once at speed, i can stomp on the gas nd its fine like if i were guna overtake someone. me nd my pops took a look under, nd i lightly power braked while he looked under nd saw tht there was a lil extra play than it shuld in the transmission mounts. soo i think thats wats causing it.

Default Jeep transmission problem

My 2001 jeep cherokee sport feels like it is slipping really bad when I take off at stop lights.. it almost feels like the rear tires are spinning but they are not . If I ease on the gas taking off it goes fine ... any thoughts.. automatic transmission 112,000 miles .. new shocks , ujoints..rearend has been serviced

Take it to a shop. Get a free estimate. Fix what they find. It sounds like either a ujoint or your Trans mount. When I took my Trans mount out... it crumbled. Be very careful with the crossemember bolts. PB blast them good... they break easy and are a mom to replace.

Start by checking your driveshaft ujoints. Wiggle them. The driveshaft shouldn't move. Wiggle HARD! Up down left right all over.

Next... lay down next to it on a flat surface, away from traffic. Have someone shift it into gear and brake torque it. See if the Trans or motor mounts/engine moves. This will show if it's a Trans or motor mount. You have to have tested hood open to see if the motor shifts around when you brake torque it. (FOOT ON BRAKE... GIVE ITGAS)

When my ujoints went bad it started with a small shimmy when starting from a stop. Then it got worse... then it also was there uphill or while towing. It usually went away with higher speeds.

Again, it could be a lot of things... these are the easy and cheap ones to check without much effort. Or, as I said, take it to a shop, tell them what's wrong, and get an estimate. Call the shops first to find out which ones give them free. Then stop at auto zone, get parts, and fix it yourself if you can.

Look right here while you're inspecting your engine and trans mounts.

You may have more than one issue. fix the known issues first.
