Default Verification on 00/99 4.0 block swap

Alright so i picked up another xj...600.00 for a 2000 limited (not limited to how much $#it can go wrong)... engine is shot...knew that, just wasn't sure...but yeah the block is cracked so....pulled engine, trans, and tcase out this weekend..so i can begin the venture of putting it all back together...degreasing cleaning, painting....blah blah blah..all the fun stuff. What i am wanting to know is probably on here somewhere, i know i have found one post on it...how much trouble is it going to be to put a block from a 99...in my 00...I know so far that the CPS has to replace the Distributor...and that i can't use the factory head off of the 99...(i think) or is it i have to use the head off the 99..not the 00...???...
Are there any other issues that i could possibly run into?? And how much trouble is this thing going to be to get timed..does it time the same as the distributor...that's why i love this forum...because i know somewhere out there, someone has done this and made it work.

Any is greatly appreciated...love this site...i could set here and read for hours...but then i'd probably lose my job...and couldn't afford to keep my jeep's...so...i'll check back here soon for any replies...thanks again.

I just swapped a 99 into my 94 and it was a huge pain in the butt. Everything on the serpintine belt had to be swapped, intake manifold, distributor, all sensors and everything connected to the other style wiring harness.

I think yours can be done. Just expect a hassle.

You can use the 99 block with the 2000 head and all the 2000 acc and sensors and your good to go I would replace the timing chain and gears harmonic balancer oil pump and all gasket including rear main while its out. Also check the ahhh damm it mental block on parts name ahh ummm it connects to the torque convertor. Sorry I m having a mental block but doing all this you should be all set. good luck

Yep. You can use a 99, or whatever year block in the 2000, as long as you use a 2000 or newer head. have you checked the block casting numbers?(below the #2and3 injectors, under the intake manifold) I bet they will both have two upper case letter AAs along with numbers that will be close to each other. If the 99 block has those two AAs in the casting code, then both blocks are the same generation. Im not sure how you set the distributorless Hall device to #1 cylinder at top dead, but I need to know to, as Im building a 99 block with an Alabama Cylinder Head thats going in a 01 XJ. Good Luck!

Move all the accessories and sensors to the '99 block.

I just got off the phone with ATK remanufactures...THEY SAY it can't be done...that the blocks will not interchange, and that the engine will not start. THEY SAY...the only blocks that can be used is the 4.0 from 00 to 04 cherokee, or grand...so who out there has done this and made it work...so we can make them eat there words?
