Vents not working
So in my '85 XJ the heater/Vent system works fine.
But the directional switch does not.
It stays on Defrost weather I change the switch or not.
It used to work and well now it does not.

defrost is the safety setting. If it goes bad it will stay on defrost. When I installed my stereo I accidentally knocked the vacuum off the bad of the controls

I had the same issue, and looked on here for a fix. There's a huge plastic vac line coming from behind the front bumper (there's a can there) and the line routes past the battery and up the fender into the cab. Mine was broke in two right by the battery. I slipped some rubber hose on the ends for a repair and it works like a champ now. Good luck
