Default valve cover switch?

I just replaced my head gasket and now I'm putting everything back together, I havent bought the valve cover gasket yet because Im wondering if I can switch the valve covers, the motor i have in my xj now is out of a 97, but I would like to put the valve cover off my old motor which is a 95, can I just get the right gasket and it throw it on or does that not work so easy?

All the same. Just 96 and up has those stupid grommets. so if you use the old valve cover just get the gasket for that year and you're good to go
