Okay, now I dig it. You're talking about the deep socket size for the bolt/studs on the right side of the cover for the stand-off brackets.
A little bit of Chrysler trickery me thinks. SAE 1/4-20 threads for the end of the bolt/stud that goes in the head and 6 MM threads for the stud portion.
DATA:
Here's what I could dig up concerning Cylinder Head Cover Bolts (from the parts catalogs):
C/N 7120 Head, 91-95
Bolts, 1/4-20x1.130"
Studs, 1/4-20x1.970" (stud length)
C/N 0630 Head, 96-99 and C/N 0331 Head, 2K-2K1
Bolts, 1/4-20x1.00"
Studs, 1/4-20x2.00" (stud length)
The 97-01 catalog specifies flange head bolts.
If you can't find/afford 1/4-20 flange head bolts, a good alternative is standard head bolts and flat washers. Stainless Steel hardware preferred.

I would honestly just pull one of the bolts/screws/whatever in the hardware store parking lot and have them match it.
I am lucky to have a junkyard on the way to my work, so I usually just stop there and grab what I need. New bolts are nice though, I almost always go grade-8 for when I inevitably break them

You and your sneaky editing after I quoted you!
Now I'm curious (annoyed lol). Going to have to yank out one of my rustmonster valve cover *SCREWS* (I know 5-90 is reading :P) and check it. That bit about the studs is also intriguing.
For funsies I'll compare the fasteners in my 0630 and 0331, too. Probably Friday when there's actually some light out there.

The above fastener data applies to US left hand drive XJ's that have right hand thread fasteners. The right hand drive XJ's in OZ have all left hand thread fasteners.

Right Roler...I mean left Roler...

There is a small, 8mm? sometimes on 5/16. (not positive there)
11mm- 7/16, 14mm-9/16, 19mm-3/4. then the big 36mm, (like for VW) will do a 1-3/8. Ones I cross anyway.
If it's 1/4 inch or larger and has a hex head, I'll call it a bolt. "3/16 inch bolt" just doesn't sound right to me. I may be screwy, that may be nuts......
