vacuum motor?

k im back with another question. my 1990 airbox has a vacuum motor lookin thing and i wanna do a cold air intake. what is the function of this thing? it has about a 2in hose comin off the exhaust going to it and a little door on the front of the actual air box.am i ok to remove it? any help is much apreciated!

you dont need it , just plug the vac hose. all it does is pull hot air off the exhaust to warm up the motor faster in cold weather. but you need it to pass smog check so dont throw it away lol
It allows the engine to get warmer air from around the exhaust manifold when it's cold. You don't need it. Just cap the vacume line and get rid of it. It probably doesn't work after 20 years anyway.
