Default Vacuum disconnect for 1989 XJ front axle

I noticed my vacuum disconnect for my front axle was disconnected when I bought it. Is it normal to be able to swivel the metal vacuum piece? The vacuum looks newer and the rubber vacuum hoses and connector look good. I'm thinking I should clean all openings, put it up on jack stands, plug it back in and see what happens. Does anyone have any helpful insight? Thanks!

I would try just that, you will know then if it needs replacing or not.

If it comes down to replacing, just get a non vac d30 from a JY and call it a day.

the vacuum lines on my disconnect were not connected when i bought my rig, but it was because the rubber connector didnt hold. if i plugged it back in, it would just slide off(common problem). i just got a short length of small vacuum tube and replaced the rubber connector, works fine now.

i have heard of people rigging up cable disconnects when their's broke, might be an option if your doesnt work.

You can use a tie-wrap to help secure any vacuum line and especially the ones which are hard to get to and are essential to vehicle operation.

i tried the tie wrap/zap straps thing, didnt work very well. it kept the rubber connector on, but one connection still leaked. zap straps work for most vacuum lines, but not this one(my case). oh well, 2 3" pieces on vacuum hose was like 75c.

You can also shim the fork over with washers. Your driveshaft will turn all the time but newer jeeps do anyway.

In addition you can change out the passenger side shaft to a non-disco shaft and then as jon says it will cause the driveshaft to turn all the time like the newer Jeeps but the disco problem will be solved.
