Default Are v-belts and pulleys a common Jeep fault?

Hi All
New here but have an issue with v-belts and pulleys maybe someone can assist.

Had mine (cherokee 2.8CRD 2007) replaced at 108 000 km. 121 000 km later they need to be replaced again but Jeep SA or Mopar aren't taking any responsibility and I have to pay again.

Is it a common fault on the car?
How long should they last?
Any advise on who to speak to?
Was I crazy in the 1st place to buy a Jeep if this is their view on their parts or workmanship?

Would appreciate some input from you all please.

70000 miles is about normal life for a belt. Is a NORMAL service Item. I can't help that you are paying somebody to do a 5 minute, $40 repair to your Jeep.

Accessory drive belts are a normal wear item. Tires are, too. Is this your first vehicle?

Also you might try www.lostjeeps.com. This site is geared towards the Jeep Cherokee XJ built from 1984-2001. Chrysler renamed the KJ to the "Liberty" in North America which creates a lot of confusion (this site based in the US).

Lost Jeeps has a pretty good KJ CRD community, definitely recommend it.

Thanks guys.
I get it that it's a normal wear and tear item.
My issue is that its only done 7 500 miles (12 000km) since last replaced and it should be doing 70 000 miles.
I am not even close to being mechanical so yeah i need to pay someone. Thats why I took it to Jeep.

Well you wrote "108 000 km. 121 000 km later". 121,000 KM is pretty good life.

So you mean AT 108k it was replaced, and AT 121k they want to replace it again?

If you meant "13,000 KM later" that is indeed abnormal. It probably needs to be tightened again. New belts stretch over the first little period and need work. Or maybe the CRD has an auto-tensioner that isn't cooperating? Don't know. We have no knowledge about the KJ platform or CRD engines on this site I'm afraid.

Ok so i'm not loosing my mind!
Yes it's done 13 000km and needs replacing.
Either way neither Jeep nor the part manufacturer (Mopar) are claiming responsibility for poor parts or workmanship.

Why do you think it needs replacing?

Could it just need tightening?

In that short of a time its either grown a little and needs to be tighten,Or something is else is causing belt alignment problems eating the belt.Lets hope its the first one its cheaper.

Problem is guys, I'm not a mechanic and have had to send it to Jeep itself.
I then need to go with their diagnosis. I have argued about it but falling on deaf ears and no response from the branch or Head Office to take resonsibility.

You don't have to be a mechanic to tighten/change a belt!

You need a couple wrenches and google!..........

I think your best bet is to find a forum that deals with your vehicle. Maybe there's a recall we don't know about, or a common problem. A forum that deals with your vehicle would have that knowledge.

I don't think we can give you much help.
