92 jeep no tilt steering column

I replaced the blinker switch and something horribly wrong. long story short it seems like the whole column is out of adjustment.

the trim that goes around the turn signal stock/ignition will not separate from the other plastic piece behind it. the piece is already starting to crack what the hell am i missing?

i have read a bunch of tutorials but none of them address this issue.

anybody have any ideas before i end up breaking this piece any more?
