I've had some clunking sounds in my front end for a while, I knew my ball joints were really bad so I replaced all 4, and went ahead and replaced my axle shaft u-joints and put in new hub assemblies. Some of the noise disappeared but a very distinct one that happened every time I backed out of my driveway was still there, I figured out what it is....
The Upper Control Arm Bushings. I didn't realize until I started to disassemble that the bushings on the axle end are actually pressed into the mounts on the axle housing. Too bad I just returned my loaner ball joint press to NAPA, I think it might work.
Has anybody done these before? Any advice? Thanks!

I droped the whole axle on mine. I tried getting in there with a BFH and beating the whole shell out. It kicked my *** under there so we pulled the whole thing. Once it was out I used a socket big enough to sit on the outer shell of the bushing and knocked it out the used a press to get the old bushing out and put the new in. Hope that helps. Im sure you can do it with droping the axle but it was about the best we came up with.
I got the lowers done last night and no big deal had them off and back together and on in an hour. I started the upper's tonight and wow was I in for a treat everything was in the way and no room to work.got the drivers side removed and back together in about an 1 1/2 hours. what a pain cant wait till tomorrow to do the passenger side.
