Default unusual wiper problem

Hi everyone, my wipers would just stop working intermittently but when i gave them a little push they would start working so I just replaced the motor. It fixed the problem but left me with another problem, now I dont have high speed but have intermittent and low which according to all the threads, this scenario is not listed. All the other threads people are complaining about just having high speed or intermittent problems. I called the auto parts store to ask if there could be something wrong with the wire harness or connector but they told me if the motor is working on the other speeds then it doesnt have any thing to do with the motor and they said its probably a switch problem. The only thing thats weird is all 3 speeds were working fine on the old motor right before i put the new one in. Dont know if what they say is 100 percent true or not. If it is then could it be the shift switch lever on the column or I read that theirs some kind of wiper module under the dash?? Can anybody help me with this? Thanks!!

What year we talking about? If you have a meter, you can verify the motor is getting power to the high-speed pin on the motor connector. The parts counter guy apparently doesn't know how wiper motors work, and I'd bet money that new motor is bad.

1999 Cherokee Sport. If it's a bad motor I won't be a happy camper since I'm not a mechanic and the thought of pulling the whole thing out again and starting over is a big deal. I thought about checking the connector with a meter but I was hoping it would be something else that might be obvious. If it turns out that I am getting power to the motor on the high speed pin of the connector it looks like I'm taking a trip back to the supplier. If I'm not would you check the stalk on the column next? Thanks for your help!

Good news is that the motor doesn't need to come out to do some basic testing. Do you have a voltmeter or test light? Backprobe the connector to the motor, and with the wiper switch on high check you should have voltage to pin 6, which the FSM says is a Brown/Violet wire.

To bench test the motor itself, disconnect the motor wiring from the vehicle. Apply ground to pin 4 on the motors connector - for reference, it'll line up with the black wire on the Jeep wiring connector. Applying power to pin 6 (lines up with brown/violet on the Jeeps harness) should make it run fast. Power to Pin 5 (brown/white) should run at slow speed. You don't have a wiper parking problem, but the test for that is verifying that pins 1&2 are connected together when the wipers are in the up position and not connected when parked.

I sent a reply yesterday but I don't think it went through. Anyway I'm going to send it again. Lawsoncl you were right about the motor being bad. All voltages were present at the jeep female connector. I plugged in the connector and verified I had voltage coming through. So its definitely the motor. I'll be taking a trip back to the supplier. Next time I get any kind of electrical part I'll test run it before I re install the whole thing. Lawsoncl thanks for your help!!
