Finally got a 96 xj sport to build up and pull my m100 trailer for camping/beach. I have an object attached to the roof between the sun visors where a map light would normally be that looks like a fuel primer bulb on a weedeater. Anybody know what this is? Has wires and a circuit board that’s half fried. Any help would be appreciated

 

early chrysler IR keyless entry. It worked horribly and the remotes are expensive to replace. You can unplug and toss it with no worries.

 

I was about to be a smartarse and say that's your rear view mirror. Veeb0rg is right, it was the crappy IR based remote. It's cheaper to install an aftermarket keyless entry system than to fix the board and find a new IR remote.

 

Thanks guys. I found out what it was by accident shortly after posting the thread. I’m gonna explore putting a map light in its place since I’m going to redo the headliner anyway. Seems like there should have been one there anyway.
