i got a 4 banger and really need more power, so i wanted to drop a 350 in but i dont have the time right now sooo instead ill just drop a six in. can i use the stock tranny i have with it? or is there a different one for the sixes

The 4.0L six will NOT bolt onto your tranny. It won't even fit in the engine bay without MAJOR modification to the firewall and front. You would be money ahead to purchase an XJ with the 4.0 already in it stock.
Figure you can get a nasty but running 4.0L Cherokee for about $500 on Craigslist usually OR a fairly nice one for about $1500 or so. You will spend about 2-3 times more than that on getting a "350" to fit and re-do the drivetrain, electronic and wiring harness. Figure a tad less to shoehorn a 4.0 in there after mods, electronics, frame work etc.
Look for an XJ already with a 4.0 and sell yours.
Not the answer you wanted, but it's the only way really.
