U joints? T case?
lately I have noticed a whining noise when my 00 sport is cold. It is correlated with the speed and is loudest and most noticable at around 35. When I slow down it stops. could this be U joints? hoping its not the t case. also whats your thoughts on changing tranny fluid at 141000 that is nasty. Iv heard after so many miles you should not mess with it?

From your description, the noise could be coming from anywhere. Front bearings, u-joints (front and/or rear shaft). Try to narrow down where the noise is coming from. Is the noise generated by speed or engine load? My experiance is u-joints will clunk/clink rapidly. "Whining" makes me think of other possibilities.
Work the rear drive shaft (I'm guessing the noise is when you're in two wheel drive). Twist it and watch the u-joints on each end. If there is play, replace the u-joints.
Do a forum search on u-joints. There is plenty of information here.

Once it goes into 4x4 the noise goes away. it almost sounds like the whine of a power steering pump going out. . .but its when I am going about 30 straight when the jeep is cold. It goes away when it warms up. Il see if I can see where the noise is coming from.

Change the Fluid NOW. DO NOT change the filter. Change the fluid in the TC and BOTH axels while you are at it Do that in 4-6 weeks when you change the tranny fluid again.
Start there, if noise persists. Get the rig in the air. Start it up and Put it in gear. Have an assistant help with accelerating if you need that. You will be laying UNDER the jeep listening for and finding the source of the noise. Inspect the suspension and steering, also, while down there.
U-joint will usually scweak or click, bearing will hum and whine. Air leaks will blow or whistle. gears will whine and groan. Find the noise determine fix from there.
