Default trying to get speedometer working

I have no speedometer, replaced the speed output sensor today and still nothing but when i pulled the sensor there was no gear with it; i removed the sensor itself, one bolt and the harness, did not remove the clip beneath it, does that sound right? ran out of time to mess with it today so just trying to get and idea if maybe i did something wrong, or if the issue is further along in the wiring or gauge cluster

Check the grounds in the engine bay by the oil dipstick tube. There's a bolt with 3 ring terminals on it, one of them is the speedo, prone to breaking since it's the shortest. I think the tach is also grounded to that wire, but it's worth checking for how quick it is to fix. Worked on my 96 when the speedo was jumpy. Do this before pulling the cluster.

yeah, but that picture sort of answers my question, i just replaced the sensor by removing the top bolt holding it in and did not remove the clip holding the gear section, wasn't sure if it was supposed to be all one piece or separate parts.

So if there's no gear, that's your problem.
