Correct me if i'm wrong, but from my understanding the a SYE's main purpose is just to move the slip from the yoke/transfercase area to in the actual shaft.
So I was wondering...why can't i just put a front shaft on my existing slip yoke and have it slip in two places? I imagine i'm not the first one to think of this but with my limited knowledge of drivelines and whatnot i cant see anything wrong with it.
any ideas?
thanks.

The primary purpose of a SYE is to allow you to run a double cardon style Drive shaft. Which gives the ability to run the driveline at greater angles without angle induced vibrations. Moving the slip joint off the TC output to the DS is just a side benefit. The modification is about vibration reduction not slip joints.

yeah, i understand that aswell, but if i put the front shaft on it has a double cardan on it.
like my plan would be to take out the rear driveshaft leaving in the yoke and put the front driveshaft double cardan attached where the single ujoint was before...

If you want a cheap and easy workaround for a SYE, just do a TC drop. There are systems that run the slip yoke with a Double Cardon joint but ONLY with a fixed shaft. Running 2 slip joints has the potential of causing vibration, because of the variable pivot points and driveline angles it would allow.

If it was that easy, people would be doing it.
