Trying to figure out if the glued parts in this automatic shift bezel are "factory".

Default Trying to figure out if the glued parts in this automatic shift bezel are "factory".

There are 4 points on the backside of this '99 XJ "automatic shifter bezel" and I am trying to figure out if this is some kind of "repair" a previous owner did or is it the way it came from the factory? Seems like the factory did a lot of things sloppy, so I wouldn't really be surprised if it was. Here are some photos to better show what I am referring to. You can see the hot glue or whatever. Basically, I am trying to take this thing apart so I can fill in some black where dirt ground it all away, so I can insert this "white filter" that came with the OneWayLight (I think) kit where the original blue/green one is, and also figure out some kind of way to keep these pieces from sliding every direction. I want the red piece to actually show what gear it is in. I'd also like to clean it because it's extremely grimy.

Can I pop that hot glue off? I mean, I know that I can, but what I mean is when I do will it come apart in 2 pieces? Are there screws? I've read people talk about screws, but I don't see how you'd access them so I am thinking that it is maybe just glued. I just want to be sure so I don't break it worse than it already is. I had a short video recorded, but I can't upload it here. Basically it just showed how the "red marker" can move all 4 directions and that long clear plastic piece that comes off the back is somehow able to slide back down when the bezel is installed and make it appear like I am in other gears than what I actually am.

Thanks folks!

I looked at the one on my 99 and although it was in a bunch of pieces, there was no glue on those posts. Then I checked the junkyard replacement and there was no glue on that one either. The shift indicator has always been a delicate as a eggshell on the Cherokee's. My guess is a previous owner did a repair.

Good Luck!

Yeah, I thought that might be the case. It was just too weird of a spot to glue. Alright, well, I am just going to leave it be for now and when I run across one at the junkyard pick it up. I tried popping that glue off and just ended up almost cutting myself with all the glue still there, haha. It's very solid. Anyway, thank you. I appreciate the reply.
