Default Transmission reprogram? What

I have a 1994 Jeep grand chrokee laredo 5.2 V8. I asked a transmission shop if they had one I could put in and they said " who is going to put it in?" I said I am and they told me I needed a way to program in the new transmission or it would break. Is this true?

sounds like they want to charge labor. Im sure you plan on unhooking the TCM from the old one and putting in a new transmission, same as old, so I don't see why any reprogramming would be necessary

as far i know... any chip youd be getting from a company, say online for example, will make sure you specify all pertinent info regarding your "programmable" or "upgraded" chip so as to be able to meet your specific needs. what im saying is it will be pre tuned and your tranny will work as youd like it too. BUT, if im wrong, and i dont think i am, then you you will have the wrong shift points and your tranny will probably just not run correctly.
