My 1994 XJ transmission gave up, (well it was about time after 350k + miles hehe) on a road trip to Mexico, I took it to a local repair shop, they will charge about 700 USD to fix, (rebuild) but they do not have this part (attached image) the "overdrive support package". Any idea where I can order it?
Did they explain why they need a new center support? Folks tend to have trouble with the A340 center support because it is an interference fit inside of the case. So when they go to pull it, it gets stuck and they end up trashing it or cracking it on it's way out or they give up. You have to take some scotch brite to the inside of the case to achieve a smooth surface, free of any burs in the soft aluminum. Then lube it up really good before attempting to pull it.
There's a ton on ebay by the way. I bet they cracked it when they went to pull it. The center support doesn't even move inside of the case. It contains a single piston with an O-ring that applies overdrive. You typically just replace the O-ring and that's it
A friend of mine went to Mexico to get some cheap dental work. While she was out he drilled a little hole in each of her teeth. It cost about $15,000 to get her mouth all put back together.
Keep your eyes peeled down there or something bad might happen.
