I just bought a new 1998 xj sport auto with about a 7 inch lift 35s lockers front and rear 4.56 gears and i went wheeling last night in it for the first time, after about driving 2 hours i shifted into 4 low and it was fine for about another 30 mins then it felt like the engine was about to bog out and no power was going to the wheels i left it off for about 30 mins and it happend again right away but eventually got going in 4 hi then i drove 2 hours home in 2 hi with no problem has anyone else had this problem ive never had a car with a auto so i have no clue whats going on any help would be great thanks

 

also when it is sitting for more than a couple hours you have to turn the engine over longer and then it sputters and dies then the second time i try it, it starts fine, i read that this cold be a check valve or a faulty injector because when i turn the key to accessory then turn it off then start it starts fine could this have to do with the problem in 4 low on the trail?

 

could it be the fuel filter?

 

Actually many times when I turn the key fast the engine tries to start then coughs. Next turn she starts fine BUT if I turn the key slowly giving the fuel pump that extra 1/2 second to energize and pressure the fuel rail she starts every time. So its not a big concern.
U seem to have a problem while running and at start-up.
I'm not getting where u have a trans problem maybe a little backround on things u have done to it or any problems before.
It could be so many things you'll have give more info.
