If the fluid is severely dark and smells burnt, you need to flush the system, it's an expensive operation because you need twice the amount of fluid to do this and you throw away half. It's the only way to get out ALL the old fluid from the tranny, well actually not the only way, the other way is dismantle the transmission.
So what you have to do is evaluate carefully the condition of your fluid and decide weather it needs to be flushed or it can do another lap.
