I have a 98 Cherokee and the tranny just went out and I found one online out of a 2001 I want to know if it will fit. HELP!!!! really need my jeep back

I think '98-2001 is a direct swap. 1997 is more like 1992-1996.

Default Need a tranny expert!!!!!!!

it went out all together now. i got up this morning got in my jeep and put in drive and it would not move. i put in R,D,1,2-3 and nothing not a budge. so i said screw it. went back that afternoon start it up put in drive and parked it in my garage, i was surprised it move so i did a brake job through all gears. i dont understand it works sometimes??????? anybody know what it could be

NSS? You can test the neutral safety switch with a VOM to verify continuity where its needed and to see if you have it where you don't want it.

The trans should go into 1st when in 1-2, 3rd when in 3, and OD when in 4 even when the fuse to the TCU is blown or the TCU is unplugged.

If the NSS tests OK and you can't manually shift the trans, its internal. If it shifts OK manually, but doesn't necessarily shift correctly when in 3 or OD, more than likely its an electronic issue.

Oh yeah, when was the last time the fluid was changed and filter cleaned?
