Default Transfer case rebuild

I'm putting a new chain in my NP231. It was very loose. I don't want to do a complete rebuild. Is there anything that I should replace while I'm in there? Is there anything I should look for that is a common issue with the NP231?

Been there, done that... A lot of the parts are not prone to be very worn unles it has been subjected to some abuse or has been worn on by the chain... Biggest thing to make sure of is that nothing has been worn too much by the chain itself, other than that, the hardest thing that I can remember is trying to get the pickup tube back into the pump when you try to put the halves back together. If it is not put back, it will not circulate fluid and will lead to other parts failing quickly as they use trans fluid rather than gear oil

This is a good time to think about any upgrades you might want. Low range 2WD, SYE. All that kind of stuff that needs to be done with the case apart.
