I have a 99 XJ with the NP242. I replaced the chain today and when i started to clean up when i was done I realized that i didnt put the O-ring in for the oil pump. I did put the oil tube into the oil pump just without an O-ring. Am i gonna have to tear into it again or will it be okay?
Please help!!
Thanks, Mike

You are definitely going to have to put an o-ring back on it as it will not pump enough fluid to the top end of the case if you do not. You will risk wearing parts out, or even worse, destroying bearings. The transmission fluid being used in the cases now is thinner by far than gear oil so it will not climb the parts like gear oil would, therefore, the pump is critical to keeping the fluid moving to vital components, just like the oil pump in your engine
