Hey Gang,
My Daughter's 97 Cherokee sport (4.0L, 4 spd) is reading an ECU code 45 which I think means "trans temp sensor voltage too high/low or governor pressure is out of whack. She complained that the tach went up and the spedo went down as if it down shifted out of high gear but no slipping was noted. There was also a pronounced bang going into drive when coming out of reverse. The bang disappeared after the car cooled down though the car never showed signs of overheating.
The fluid level was good and it didn't smell or look burned. I thought I would start tracking the problem by changing the trans fluid and filter and while I'm at it I'll clean the contacts in the neutral safety switch but I have no idea where the temp sensor or governor pressure sensor is. I'd appreciate any info on the sensors location in or on the transmission or any thoughts as to the cause of the symptoms or code 45.
Thanks,

Thanks for the input. It looks like I need a good schematic of the trans so I can be sure of what I'm messin with. Anybody know where I can find one on line?

the "filter" is more like a Mesh screen....that is normally replaced when doing a rebuild. Should last the life of the trans...However there are magnets in the transmission pan than could use cleaning. It is a pan filled trans and the 2 piece dipstick is a PITA!!! to seperate...i couldnt get mine loose. The NSS is on the pass side of the casing. Clear the codes and see if they return....my trans acted horrible when i bought the car...wouldnt shift in/out of OD sometimes wouldnt shift at all....turned out to be a bad Trans ECU.
