For normal driving & best mileage should this switch be on comfort or power ?
I'm hearing both ways but the people talking here are idiots........
thanks

Power. After 92 (I think - whenever the switch was eliminated) the factory default mode was actually Power. It moves the shift points higher, which increases NVH a bit, but has the effect of keeping the engine in it's power band longer as well as reducing the amount of time the torque converter is unlocked and slushing around.

I currently have a '91 and I have the Power/Comfort switch in mine while my last '92 did not have one. I have read that they should get better mileage in the power setting (and I do use it when I'm towing a trailer or carrying a heavy load) but mine gets better mileage in the comfort setting. I guess that it's just in the granny way that I drive as I keep trying it both ways and calculating the mpg from fill-up to fill-up.
One thing is constant across all XJ's ever built... Every XJ is different. What works good for one may not work for another.
My suggestion, try it both ways and see which works best for you in your XJ.

My 91 has one. I kept it in power. Sometimes I would hit it with my knee or something and I would think my trans is slipping. I don't like what the comfort switch does. Doesn't feel like its good for the tranny.
