Default Trans Cooling Hose

I had a freak thing happen. One of the trans cooling lines somehow slipped into the electric fan. And it cut into the line last night. i found it because oil splattered all over. Nice slice into the rubber part of the line. I'm having trouble getting that replacement. Looking at some specs, shows max pressure for the aftermarket coolant systems is 100 psi. Is it really this low pressure thru those lines?
If it is, I could cut and clamp in a 3/8 Stainless tube into it and than hose clamp it. Can I do this until I find the right hose. ?
The line I'm looking for is the one that comes out of the drivers side radiator/cooler at 90 degrees, then snakes under the electric fan, under the motor to the passenger side then back into the trans somewhere. I haven't crawled under yet to see where it attaches to the trans. I went to Jeep dealer to find which hose that is. The parts diagram books weren't helpful. When I guessed which one it might be, I was told no longer available. Went to Autozone, got the wrong one first time. I just ordered another one to trade this one in. Hope the correct one.
Any help out there? As to where to get it? Or if i really can splice into the rubber line?

Yea, you can splice them, and no need for stainless. When both the metal lines on mine got squished, I cut out the bad section's and used 3/8 fuel line. I did use two small clamps, (8 total), mounted opposite to feel better about it, but the pressure is not that high, it just needs to circulate through the rad. Maybe cut it at the gash, fit in a 3 inch or so piece of metal tube, (any), then clamps around the rubber....Copper tube from ACE might be cheap and easy.

Thanks. I said stainless because I can get stainless tube at work easily. I thought could do that splice seeing aftemarket coolers just clamped. Will save work until I can get the replacement line and time to do the replacemrnt. Be easy job but really oily messy from the oil shower that happened under the hood. Thanks

I spliced in Stainless tube , compression fittings both ends onto barbed fittings. Cut hose and clamped it. Now what trans fluid goes into it.
1994 Cherokee, 4.0L, 2WD. AW4 trans. Dealer said ATF4
Then I read Dexron III/ Mercon. Whats right for it. Should I do synthetic? Trans fluid didn't look bad, red , last I looked at it before it blew.

Cool! Dexron III/ Mercon, same in the transfer case for 4 WD. Return that other stuff.

Maybe do your AW-4 a favor and just drain and refill, repeat along with oil changes until it looks nice and pink. Better to go slow and let the detergent do the work, no flush!

You may be able to find that entire line undamaged at a DIY junk yard. As long as you flush it out really well and it's in good shape, a used line should be fine.

If you need to splice instead, just about any solution will work as long as it doesn't leak and isn't in the way. I had the common problem of getting one of my lines crushed under my Brown Dog motor mount bracket and just cut out and replaced that section with rubber hose routed up over the mount out of harm's way. They sell the hose by the foot at O'Reilly. I briefly considered flaring the ends of the metal line, but it actually wasn't necessary because the pressure is so low.

There should be a retainer screwed into the cross member under the radiator. It's just a loop of metal that goes around the transmission lines and holds them in place. When you fix the line, you might want to make sure that retainer is there so that you don't end up with the same problem again. If not, you can probably just use a zip tie.

You also may want to crawl under the passenger side and inspect the condition of the lines along the oil pan. One reason your line might have moved into the fan is that it got caught up and bent under the motor mount.

Got back to the forum. I cut a piece of SS tubing, slipped it in and clamped it. Still good. Forgot all about it.

have a '97 and just replaced rad in it today, started it up and the bottom trans line that you're talking about blew off....the connection there is a joke and the new rad OD ring on the copper must be a little bigger or something..

I have a plastic sleeve that is suppose to lock it into place, I'd like to just be able to hose clamp it to the copper line if I could.....

nasty tranny fluid in mine, luckily I just started it and turned it off but it was enough to cause a mess....
