well weather im taking off from a stop, or on the highway and i step on it....my 95 cherokee wont shift into 2nd gear, it goes from 1st to 3rd, or if im already rolling and step on it it does not down shift, stays in same gear and doesnt really accelerate...
ive tried it in the 3, and in the 1/2 position on the shifter...it seems to only very rarely shift into 2nd...
any ideas what could be doing this? will i need a new tranny or can something be done?
i should mention that the jeep is smoooth and no shifting problems other than it wont go into 2nd

anyone have a clue? it seems to do it more often when the jeep is hot/getting driven for a while....when the jeep is cold off of start it doesnt seem to do it....could this be n oil problem?

Second gear requires *both* solenoids 1&2 to operate. First and third use one and the other individually.
So... in order to have 1 and 3 but not 2, both solenoids must operate individually, but aren't operating together. That would be a real oddball problem.
Bad wiring, bad connector, bad ground to trans.case, either solenoid going up in resistance when warm.... something possibly not allowing enough current flow to operate both solenoids at once? I dunno.
Might verify your TPS operation and check the TV cable adjustment for S&G, either will affect trans. operation in strange ways.
eta: are you sure you aren't going from 1 to 4, then mistaking the TCC lockup as another shift? That might make more sense. #2 solenoid dead will cause that.
1st solenoid 1
2nd solenoid 1 and 2
3rd solenoid 2
4th Neither 1 or 2 (both off)
TCC Solenoid 3

well when i put it in 1/2, it wont **** to 2nd, it just keeps reving till it redlines if i let it go...ifi put it in 3 the jeep will take off in 1st and then jump to 3rd then if i step on the gas it wont down shift it just stays in same gear and slowly gets up in speed while hearing the engine forcing. if i put it in D then its pretty much the same as in 3 but the 4th gear comes in for fuel savings..ect....
today though off of cold start abot 2 blocks away while having it in D it would not shift out of 1st gear unless i let go of the gas to let the tranny shift....it was fine after 15 min and was back to being the reg 2nd gear miss and every now and then working completely normal...
i notice it the most on the highway (70 kmh +) when i go to step on the gas and it just wont downshift and let me accelerate properly
but like i said sometimes it works just fine, but
