Default Tranny wont shift

Hey guys I have a 99 4.0 with 300k on it and sometimes my tranny is slow to shift in the mornings when it's cold i let my motor heat up to about 140 before I leave but it will kind of high rev coming out of 1st into second any ideas?

seals are old and worn out, combined with normal shrinkage in cold weather, so fluid leaks and is not able to build up pressure, then as the trans fluid warms up and the seals expand they hold the fluid better

rebuild or replace

yeah she is a little leaky year round. Timing chain cover leaks too 😅😅

I assume the fluid is in good condition and at the proper level? Cant' hurt to check the TV cable adjustment either. Line pressure on the low side isn't helpful in the cold. But yeah, at 300K it's most likely in need of a rebuild.

yeah It's got enough fluid, even though I have to add a quart about every two weeks
