Default tranny problems??

Ok. First off:

I have a 1996 Cherokee Sport, 4x4, 4.0 H.O. I was driving about 45-50 mph because of the snow drifts and people in front of me. All of a sudden it felt like the Jeep shifted and the rpm's went from around 2000 to 2500 at that speed. When I got a chance to pull over I did. I put it in park then I took off again. It took off real slow, kinda doggish in first gear. Still drives fine but the rpm's go up easier and now sit at 2500 when i get to around 40-60 mph.
Any suggestions of what happened or what it could be???? anything?

no i didnt turn it off when i stopped. i didnt want to be pulled over to long with the snowy dusty conditions.

I will have to look about a loose connection. I guess it will be time to get down into the snowy slush haha. great.

I will start it back up in a little while and take it for a short drive and update you whether it does it or not.
