Question tranny problem ?

i just bought a 1990 cherokee with the 4.0 liter and when driving home i'd take off in drive and it felt like i was in high gear,i was forced to shift it manual. Is this a huge problem or just a sensor or something?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Good news, the tranny is fine but sitting has corroded the TPS on the throttle body. Replace the TPS and adjust it and the tranny will be fine. If you look in this article it will explain how to make the adjustments.

If your AW4 will shift through the gears fine manually but, not automatically, I would go with what Blue told you first. As it is an easy fix if that is what is causing it. If not, then your problem is that the TCU is not turning on. Check fuses and then check for 12vdc on pin C15 of your TCU connector.
