Exclamation Tranny issues? any advice??

Good afternoon everyone,
I am currently experiencing an issue with my '01 cherokee regarding it shifting correctly after driving for over 1/2 hour. Initially after startup it drives and shifts fine, but once it warms up it will not down or up shift correctly especially climbing long hills (which really sucks living in the mountains in Colorado). I have replaced the filter, fluid twice and shift soleniods, but I am still having the issue.....any ideas?

second that, and also check the Throttle Position Sensor. The TPS has a lot to do with down shifting.

Search google for a pic and follow steps below

1) open hood
2) depress grey button
3) push plunger all the way in
4) let go of grey button
5) go inside jeep
6) press accelerator peddle down to the ground
7) you should hear clicks
8) do all this with ENGINE OFF

Do you own a digital volt/ohmmeter?

I have some checks you can perform, but if you are not capable I'll hold off on posting the procedures.

Thanks for all the advice. I looked up the TV cable after I posted my last comment. I will try that when I get home today. Thanks all. More info and pics later.

Well Gents, tried the advice but to no avail. Same issue. Ran and shfited great, but once I slowed down to about 10mph to turn around and got back in the throttle, same issue. Would not shift unless I got out of the throttle. RPMs went up to about 4K before I let out and then it shifted....should I try cleaning out the the valve body in the bottom of the tranny as a next step??

Take CCKen up on his offer here. A quick trip to HF can get you a multimeter for cheap and Ken can and will give you wizard level knowledge to help you track down the exact cause of your issue...

I'm having some simular tranmission problems and are very interested in the checks you can perform with a meter. I have meters andI'm handy around vehicles. CCKen can you run thru the check for me please?

My main complaint is dropping out of overdrive and some jumping around at lower speeds. Sometimes getting stuck in a high gear at stop lights. Restarting my XJ usually temporarily fixes it.

Bad TPS.

I've gone through several BWDs until I got lucky with one that actually works. Bad out of the box.

You can meter and procedure until you are blue in the face and still have a bad TPS.
