hey guys im new to the mechanical side of the Cherokee. my issue is that my manual transmission wont shift when the vehicle is running. all the fluids are filled and it will **** when the vehicle is off. what is causing this and how can I fix it?

 

Check your clutch fluid, check the master and slave cylinders, year?

 

If you put it in gear and hold the clutch in and start it does it move forward if in first gear as the starter turns?

If it moves or even shudders then the clutch isn't disengaging fully. If so as Rawk said above check the clutch for proper operation.

 

its a 89'. when I have it in gear and turn the it on it goes forward but when its in neutral and its running ill go to shift into 1st or reverse and it either kick forward or back as if it wants to engage but it wont.
