Not normal, but not likely the transmission either. More likely a bad driveshaft U-joint, loose suspension part, bad motor or trans mount, bad exhaust hanger, dry slip yoke...

As Radi stated, not normal.

Your Jeep needs a good dose of "noggin pokin".

That means that you, or someone who is knowledgeable about vehicles, needs to poke their noggin under the Jeep and look for issues.

Have you ever checked all the fluid levels since you bought the Jeep?

check most but not all fluids... thanks for the info guys. I have just found out another issue, I went into 4H and when I went back to 2H it took a long time to convert. I had to put it in park and turn the jeep off and the on for it to get into 2H. Bad transfer case?

What's the condition/level of the fluid in the transfer case?

Need to shift it properly. And, of course, get those fluids checked.

Here's how the factory suggests you shift the transfer case and I've been doing this since these things were new and I worked at the dealership. Quoted from the owner's manual.

"To engage, shift the transfer case lever from 2H to 4H while the vehicle is moving at any legal speed". I let off the gas, throw the lever, and then tap the gas and let off.

4L position: " To engage, slow the vehicle to 2-3 MPH , shift the transmission to Neutral, then shift the transfer lever to the right and pull firmly rearward to 4L".

It is also quite common to have to stop the Jeep, keep the wheels straight, and go in reverse for a little bit. I know it sounds stupid, but an old Jeep mechanic ( Jeep, and Chrysler certified) told me about this.

May want to try some heat (maybe lots of it) it's a steel plug in an aluminum housing, they can sieze up pretty solid.
