Default Trailer hitch & nut strip question.

Finally got my Curt trailer hitch in the mail. I noticed that they only provide nuts, bolts and square washers with the hitch for installation. After reading about some concerns here, I decided to order a nut strip for the drivers side instead of just using the square washers.

After looking at the terrible condition of OEM nut strip already in place on the passengers side..I'm thinking I might be better off ordering new ones for both sides. It appears the original nut strip is just riveted in place and I just need to drill out the rivet to remove it. Can anyone verify that this is the case or is the strip welded in a place I can't see?. I don't want to turn this into a bigger problem than when I started(like is usually the case) Thanks.

It comes out easily, mine was riveted but quite loose. You'll need to take the rear bumper off...

Where can you only order one nutstrip?

What do you have on the passenger side that would be riveted and not on the drivers?

When I bought mine, they were a pair. I guess you could ask for them individually.

There is a write up on NAXJA to make your own.

Thanks guys. It seemed pretty loose except where the hanger bracket mounts through it..but I just wanted to be sure..It...and everything around it is rusted. I can't really address the rust without removing it, so I'll just replace it. Looks like I'm gonna need an exhaust soon, so I guess I"ll be doing that too...

The cheapest I found them is here..

You might want to try running a tap up through the nuts that are already there if they just look rusted. I thought the ones on mine were way beyond saving, but after cleaning them out with a tap, good as new and the bolts went right in.
