Default Track Bar Madness

A while ago I posted a thread about a noise in my front end when I turned left. I found it to be the track bar ball joint, so I replaced the whole bar (it was the only thing I could do). It helped for about a week and then started acting up again. Now it is almost back to the way it was before, and I have no idea what it could be. I've only driven it for about a month since the fix. It seems like the ball joint just wore down again. I have not modified the suspension at all, so it only has the stock ware and tear on it. I found a nice little blurb of information on the TSB & Recalls section of the forum, but I cannot read any more of it because I don't have a subscription to AllData. It explained exactly what goes on and what it could be, but I need to read more to figure out why it happens and what I can do to fix it. It also makes it seem like it's a common thing for the earlier XJs. Can anyone help me so I don't have to spend $20 on a subscription for one little thing? If I can figure out how to fix it, I can finally put this pain in the butt problem to rest.

I would start by having a buddy turn the steering left and right, And then checking all the ball joints, U-Joints, Ect.

And buy quality parts, but this could be a factory defect! I'd take it back.

I'll have my girlfriend turn the wheel like I did last time. haha. But yes, I bought a Moog track bar last time. Not a $35 generic one. I think It might just be defective, but I'm not sure if I can return it since I painted it black to protect it from rusting.

Today I'm gonna crank down on the castle nut holding the track bar to the frame-mount bracket and put a new cotter pin in. Hopefully having that tight will make it better. If not, I'll call up Moog and see what I can do. I already had to use some pipe thread tape on the grease fitting because the hole was defective and had a chip in the edge of it. But I had to use the part anyway. I needed to have my jeep.

You did use a torque wrench Right? Also you might check for worn out mounting holes.

Did you check your frame side track bar mount, make sure all the bolts are tight?

All bolts that make up the track bar and brackets are tight and the mounting holes are fine. I have no idea what it could be anymore.

Take your frame mount off and check it and the frame for cracks mine wasn't cracked but some reason my frame mount was moving and the bolts were super tight, you can see the shiny metal where it was moving and caused my popping, replaced with a used one from my buddy and solved my popping and slight death wobble

It looked fine when my dad and I first did the job. No cracks, no worn areas. It sits flat on the frame and the frame is fine. I tightened the hell out of everything since that's what I've seen on here. People say it can come loose, which I don't want. I'll go through it with a torque wrench if I can find the right specs for everything. I'm pretty sure they aren't over tightened since its a hard spot to get leverage under there.

Haha, I'll probably just replace it with a stronger aftermarket setup. Once I get the cash I'm gettin a RC 4.5 X-Flex kit.
