Default Trac Bar Mod

Ok I got the death wobble after 3 days of runnings my 3" lift and it only happened once on a mountain road, so after looking at the axle, it looked like ti was off center and sitting more to the driver side.

So last night I drilled the TracBar bracket 3/4" over and now it looks like the axle is sitting more to the passenger side than the driver, wtf? Whats the easiest way to make sure the axle is center? Where would be a good place to measure from?

the easiest was is to go get urself an adjustable one. i doubt u will have enough space there do redrill it. and oblonging the hole iisnt a good idea in my opinion

No i dnt wanna re-drill, I know I'm gonna have to go to an adjustable unit, but how do I know when I axle is center with the adjustable unit, not just by eye, but dead center where it should be.

SHould I just place the trac bar back in the original hole til then or leave it in the newly drilled hole?

I'm just trying to find what cause my DW since it only happened ones as I was coming out of a curve on a mountain road. I came out of a curve went over a dip/hump then the DW started. Hub's/Bearings are nice and tight, all my tie rods are tight with no slack, only things I can see is the axle being off center

You know that the axel being off center was NOT the cause of the Death Wobble. It may well have been something to do with the trackbar, but not really its mounting location. Best way to center the axel is either to measure, not sure where is best. I used the flares to the tires.

Death Wobble is caused by worn and loose joints in the steering and suspension. Bushings, TRE's, Wallowed out bolt holes, ball joints.

With te track bar disconnected at the axle I jacked up the jeep from the frame rails and so that the axle would find where it wanted to center itself. then I let it back down and found where to drill the new hole which ended up being directly next to the original. I welded grade 8 washers where the new holes were so that it would not wear into the original hole creating one big oblong hole. Also I installed a heavy duty stabilizer. Lastly I aligned the tires to have 1/8" toe in. No more death wobble but I was left with a crooked stearing wheel.

Sounds about right. Now loosen the 2 bolts on the drag link adjuster and using channel lock or pipe wrench, rotate the adjuster until the steering wheel is straight.

My steering wheel is off as well. Could you go into more detail? Perhaps pictures or a link?

no pic, Go look at the drag link where it attaches to the pitman arm. you will see a sleeve with 1 bolt on each end. Loosen the bolt and rotate the sleeve.

u may have to do it a few times to get it straight. its als nice to have a helper so 1 u know ur turning it the right way and 2 tell u when ur centered. then snug it u and take it 4 a ride. it took me a few tries to get the wheel straight. but its a really easy process

Yeah I figured it out. I had a helper too . While I was under there I tested the steering, the passenger tie-rod end is loose. I can't figure it out. I tighten the castle nut and the whole ball joint spins .

I got the axle centered back up, went ahead and replaced the drag-link/passenger tie rod, everyting else is nice and tight, no wollowed holes, no slack in the hubs. I'm gonna have it aligned tomorrow and go from there, after me and my brother-in-law got to looking at it, it looks like my toe may be off, when the wheels are straight it looks like the passenger is off compared to the driver. Hopefully the alignment will square things out
