Yay, finally a guru showed up!

So I guess I might as well confirm this with you...the input reading of 4.64V isn't a problem, right?
And yeah, I can only adjust the TPS output voltage between about 4.46V and 4.59V, so I'm looking for a used one somewhere...really don't what to pay the $50 for a new one

All right, I ended up just getting the $50 sensor from O'Reillys...seems to have fixed my surging idle and throttle response problem. I'll try to remember to update after a while if the bad gas mileage problem was fixed also.

Any update on the mpgs? I'm going through pretty much the same thing after a tune up and replacing the injectors with some from a neon. Idles very good on start up and has good throttle response and power but starts to idle high when warm. My mileage went to 12.4 or got about 196miles?? on a tank. Im sure it was close to 230-240 before the tune up and injector swap.

Yeah, as it turns out, the TPS actually didn't fix any of those problems really...now it just stumbles after it warms up for a minute or two, and I averaged 5.88 mpg on the last tank

My problem seems to be something else though - only gets bad gas mileage in town...on the highway it gets 20+ mpg. I'm thinking that it's maybe dumping a bunch of fuel in when trying to come off of an idle, causing the stumble and the bad mpg.

The surging idle WAS fixed though.

Bump. I just replaced mine and thought I had it adjusted properly. needless to say it shifts at 4.5k. I got a good DMM and I'm going outside right now to try it again. I have an auto and followed the adj procedure perfectly but still having issues.

Edit: ouput voltage is only .8 and input is 4.59

I'm not getting it.

According to my calculations, you should be shooting for an output voltage of 3.81V. Try adjusting the kickdown cable also as that controls shift points as well.

EDIT: As a side note, it is now looking like the MAP sensor is possibly my problem. I'll update with the results as soon as I get a new one.

Yeah, my issue with the .8v was a bad ground. After I corrected that I went to adjust to spec that I found on the first page and I snapped top bolt and stripped lower bolt threads on the TB. Not a good day for me ahaha.

Also, I'm by no means trying to thread jack. I just been lurking and saw this thread was most recent so I replied.

It could be that he adjusted it wrong since the TPS feeds info to the tranny as well as the engine. I'm assuming that you have a RENIX (87-90) jeep, as the TPS's one all the other years are non-adjustable...HERE is a good link to checking all the RENIX engine sensors. All you need is a multi-meter.

Another possible cause of the high shifting problem would be a poorly adjusted kickdown cable. If you don't know how to adjust it, use the search function, there are several good threads on here about that

Oh, and the MAP sensor thing turned out to be me testing it improperly...looks like it's fine after all. It looks like the mileage is getting a bit better after running some injector cleaner...I'll try to remember and update again later.

Hmm, not sure. You could try testing your MAP, MAT, CTS and O2 sensors. You might want to start your own thread though - I'd like to keep this one mainly on the topic of the TPS
