Towing with bumper hitch?
What would be the max weight that could be pulled by a custom rear bumper with a 2' receiver? Working on building mine and I was going to have a good welder finish up my bumper. Any thoughts?
Thanks.
Also gonna throw in i plan to add a good trans cooler and only plan on towing a small trailer just big enough for a couple 4 wheelers. occasionally used for a recovery point also.

All depends on how well you build it. If it's solid I would say you can tow whatever the max rated is for your engine/trans. Your transmission will thank you for the cooler also.

It's really strong, I think it could easily haul what I need.
Thank you. Just thought I'd ask before doing so.

what did you use for mounting points? 8 or 12?
* edit
i used to tow 2- full size yamaha grizzles and a yzf 250 on a aluminum snowmobile trailer... but that was using a cheap U-hall hitch what used the 4 mounting points, if you used all 12 to make ur bumper im sure u'll be fine with whatever the engine can handle, i used to have to two our old landscape steel trailer which was a pig and the jeep didn't like it with hills, but it was fine with the aluminum set up...

if it's only mounted to the stock 8 bumper bolt mounts, i wouldn't tow anything with it.
if your bumper is extended down the frame rail and mounted with a nutstrip, and it is welded with good penetration, then it should pull what the xj is rated for. that's around 5k.
don't pull a fart with it if it's only using the stock bumper bolts.
