Tow Straps (with hooks or without?)
So I've been looking at getting some tow straps, and I see straps with and without hooks. To me it seems like using the straps with hooks is just as dangerous as using a chain. Am I wrong? Or should I get the straps with hooks. Thanks!

OR cut the hooks off and use shackles! But I would replace it as my brothers and I have snapped many a 10k rated strap and use 30k+ rated ones, they are a pain to carry (heavy when wet) and take up more space, but they don't break as often and typically don't go as far when they do due to the stiffness of the strap and weight.

that is not a tug strap. you need something with some elasticity.
you need a recovery strap, they should be white with yellow reinforced loops. look into procomp or ericson.
i've used 2" straps with no problems, but those are more for zuks and wranglers. go for a 3" strap by 30 feet. then add a 3"x20' later for those times when a 30 foot is too long.
2" is usually 20,000lb and 3" is 30,000 tug strength.
any larger and your vehicle will be too light to get a proper tug.
and no hooks, as mentioned. get yourself some 3/4 inch shackles.
always keep your strap clean for every time out. dried mud acts like sandpaper in the fibres.
i powerwash mine then toss em in a pillowcase and take em to the laundramat.
oh, and toss em out when they get any sign of damage.

don't look at tow ropes or tow straps.
you need recovery straps, there is a huge difference.
when you get the recovery gear you need, learn how to use it properly. there has been some fatal mishaps close to me and my group. BE SAFE!!

no hooks! get one with the loops and use a d-ring. but make sure the d-ring is tight(use a wrench or pliers) bc if its not tight enough it can also become a projectile.
