Hey guys!

Im planning on installing a hitch and i've been researching and it looks simple to do. Now when it comes to wiring i found a website that shows you exactly how to do it, but it's all inside the vehicle and when you want to use the cable you have to pull it out throught the back hatch. Is this how you ran your hitch wires?

You can do it that way or take an extra couple minutes and run them out through the grommet at the bottom inside of your rear quarter panel. Make sure you seal it up good. HTH

 

this looks funny... I wouldnt do that. Use extra cabel with plug.

Leaving it in the hatch like that is a hack job. I can't believe they did it for that demonstration and suggested covering it with a mat. That's too funny! As AWOL suggests, it's easy enough to run it through that existing hole in the bottom of the quarter panel. I cut an x shaped hole in the grommet and put some automotive plastic sleeving over the wires and fished them through the hole. That's a great wire kit btw, and I've never had a problem with it. It made the wiring a 5 minute job. Took longer to remove the spare tire and bracket than anything else.

 

My jeep, as do most, came with plugs for every available option even if the option wasn't included (example is mine has the plugs for all the power window/lock options under the trim but not into the doors), take off the left rear cover behind the spare tire holder and see if the plug is there. Then run it through the grommet in the bottom of the inside of the rear quarter panel.

 

I was thinking it might be a little...uhh...hillbillyish? But who knows. I was gonna say i had never seen them run underneath the door before. But thanks for the input. Ill take apart the panel tomorrow and take a look.

 

If you look under the rear of your Jeep you will see the grommet you can run the wires through. Real easy. The guys in the video probably didnt know it was there.
