Default Torque Converter Replacement

Looking for a good torque converter replacement/upgrade. Anyone have experience with Dacco reman. or a pro king? The OEM TC is discontinued and researching for a new one is proving confusing.

I have a 97 XJ with 4.0 and AW4 transmission. Current TC is whining. Sounds like an old van in reverse.

Finally pulled the old torque converter. Thinking about the ATC Pro King J30 Torque Converter. Anyone have any luck or reviews on this?

Hopefully some of the more experience members will comment because this issue doesn't come up very often so there is not enough of a sample to recommend a specific brand. Maybe do a larger google search for the company name asking if their TC are good.

@OldTires Thanks!

I've tried searching extensively on torque converters, but there is not a lot of info on it. Someone recommended TCI and HOLLEY but they dont have a direct fit application for a 97 XJ and Mopar's OEM part is discontinued. Really not a lot of information around the aftermarket options. Would suck to put something bad in and have to drop trans again

Yeah, that's not a job you want to do twice.

While you have the trans detached, make sure to inspect the freeze plugs at the back of the engine. There are 2, one on the engine block and another on the engine head. If they need replacing, now would be the time to do it.

Good luck
