Exclamation Torque converter help!?!?!

I was driving down the highway and all of a sudden it was like someone threw my XJ into neutral, It started bouncing off the rev limiter but still in drive. i pulled off the road, and let it cool down and then cranked it up again, put it in drive and she wouldnt budge. I tried neutral, reverse, drive, 3rd, 2nd-1st and park and all she would do is rev. i could push the jeep manually in all gears expect park. I tried doing all of this in 2wd, 4wh high and low. there is no grinding of gears or anything. any help would be awesome!

Thanks y'all

If the jeep doesn't go forward it's a mechanical problem. Since it works in reverse it has pressure so pump and torque converter are good too. Check the leverage (cable) and look for metal powder in the fluid.

the jeep does not go in reverse, or foward on its own. what i meant was, i could manually push the jeep while it was in any gear except for park.

Your transmission just died! Most likely lost the forward pump and in turn fried the clutches. What color is the trans fluid? Is it an orange color? Smells like burn brakes? If you answer yes to this then its time for a rebuild/replace. Doesn't say where you live but if its in Texas give me a call and I will hook you up!

that's another story. No pressure, either pump is shot or torque converter. Anyway check the lever cable.

Better get a book on transmission overhaul or a DVD. I got a great DVD for overhauling a 700r4 transmission for a chevy. The link is below for the company I got that video from. I don't know if they have a DVD for the jeep transmission.

I have bought 3 Jeep Cherokees this year that had "bad trannys" or a "broken rod". If anything like this ever happens to anyone, first thing to do it pull the inspection cover and make sure the torque converter bolts didnt fall out. It happens alot. and its $3.10 to fix
