Default toggle switches

I have an 85 XJ and the key cylinder acts funny. Won't always turn the motor off without turning a couple of times. Plus the headlight switch **** always falls off.

I know I can glue the **** on and probably swap the switch but I started thinking about doing something different.

I'm toying with the idea of replacing the headlight switch with a multi position toggle. Also Maybe adding a two position switch for ignition and a momentary switch for the starter.

I'd leave the key for a stearing wheel lock and master power.

Anyone done this or have anything I should think about before I start this little project?

glue the **** on, and replace the electric ignition swithch on the bottom of column much simpler than rewireing

I had this problem with a 85 chevy pickup once and I did what you are thinking about doing to your ignition switch, looking back on it it would have been alot easier and saved me alot of problems if i would have just bought a new key cylinder in stead of having to go through the trouble of rewiring everything. Just my two cents

i did the starter bit in a standard 95 nissan sentra, with the clutch out i used a test ligh to find the wires that lit up when the key was in the start position, found two wires and cut them both ran a wire from my batt to one position on the momentary and the other two wires went on the other side no one could start the car without the key and clutch, turn the key to "on" and flip the momentary, my friends in college always called my car the race car after that
