Can 33 x 10.5 fit on stock Cherokee sport rims. 15 x 7

Yes.. they will be fine. I believe the general rule is that the tire width needs to be no more than 4" wider than the wheel width.

Now as far as fitting on your XJ, you will probably have issues with rubbing the control arms.

10.5 inch tires will fit on 7" wheels..... as seen in these two pictures, I ran 33X10.50 tires on these wheels, and they stuck just fine.

But it is true, on a "factory" wheel, they will probably rub when turned lock to lock.... but wheel spacers are cheap and will solve that problem too....

If they rub forget spacers and just get new wheels

I agree... that si the "right" way to do it... just figure spacers are cheaper.

Ok sweet, I'm not a big fan of spacers though, my Brother is a mechanic and prefers no spacers, but if i have to get new rims so be it. Any tips on installing a 4.5 rough country lift?

my only tip is spend the little extra $$$ on the control arm drop brakets that Rough Country sells.... they are worth every penny!
